Paez's Revolt in Venezuela 1848-1849

Jose Antonio Paez (1790-1873), leader of the Conservatives, dominated Venezuela either as the country's president or power broker from 1830 to 1848, a period of political stability and economic progress. His friend General Jose Tadeo Monagas (1784-1868), who was elected Venezuelan president as a Conservative in 1846, broke with Paez when he appointed Liberals as ministers. The Conservative congress was angered, and Paez led supporters in revolt against Monagas, whose forces were victorious; Paez went into exile. Between 1848 and 1858, Venezuela was under the dictatorial rule of either Monagas or his brother, Jose Gregorio Monagas (1795-1858), who alternated in the country's highest office and tried to lengthen the presidential term from four to six years.

Armed Conflict Events Database

Armed Conflict Events Data (ACED) is an research project providing independent information about known wars, international disputes, civil wars, rebellions, coups, revolutions, genocides and other violent conflicts. ACED has been online since December 2000. Various partial revisions and modifications have been implemented since then, however, the limitations of the this format hamper further development. During 2005, the decision was made to radically restructure the available conflict information into a database. The new Armed Conflict Events Database (ACEDb) will substantially increase the utility of available conflict data for students of military history. As well, it will offer expanded opportunities to add and edit records of conflict. Existing research material will be maintained in its present form but no revisions are planned.
