This index presents historical and modern wars and conflicts taking place in the present territory of, or relating to, Vietnam. Vietnam declared independence from France after World War II but after defeating the French the state ended up divided until 1975. The territory, formerly part of French Indochina, had been under French colonial rule beginning in 1858.
