Axis forces break Gazala Line

British prisoners taken in action around the Gazala LineIn North Africa... In the face of Rommel's superiority in armor and successful attacks the South African and British infantry begin withdrawals from the Gazala Line. At Knightsbridge, the British Guard Brigade withdraws completely.

In the Mediterranean... The first German and Italian air attacks occur against the British convoys from Gibraltar and Egypt sent to relieve Malta.
