Canadian conscripts not forced to fight

Canadian prime minister visits troops in BritainIn Canada... The government, following a public referendum (April 27th), passes conscription for overseas service. However conscripts will not be forced to fight overseas. 

In Burma... At Kalewa. The British turn and fight a fierce rear guard action here before continuing the withdrawal to the Imphal area.

In the Mediterranean... German aircraft from Crete sink the British destroyers Lively, Kipling and Jackal.
