Canadian troops take EnnaIn Sicily... Canadian troops capture Enna and advance to Leonforte. American troops reach Menfi in the south of the island.

In Washington... Roosevelt directs that information about atomic research is to be shared with the British. 

On the Eastern Front... Popov's Bryansk Front captures Mtsensk.

In the Solomon Islands... New American forces take over the front on New Georgia. New road construction alleviates the supply problem. Two Japanese destroyers are sunk during a supply mission.


This chronological study of the Second World War provides a comprehensive day-by-day account of WWII. While focused on the military history of the war, with an emphasis on the battles and campaigns fought, the timeline includes social and political history as well. Some Holocaust related events are already recorded and additional updates are pending. In so far as possible, the images included in this presentation are pictures from the given days.
