Allies capture Kyaukme

Chinese 6th Army troops patrol in BurmaIn Burma... Northeast of Mandalay, the British 36th Division and units of the Chinese 6th Army take Kyaukme. The Burma Road from Mandalay to Lashio has been cleared of Japanese forces.

In the Ryukyu Islands... US naval forces, including Task Force 58 and TF52, continue air strikes on Okinawa while TF54 continues bombarding the island. Japanese Kamikaze and submarine attacks continue.

On the Western Front... Forces of French 1st Army begin to cross the Rhine River near Speyer. To the north, all the Allied armies continue to advance.

On the Eastern Front... Ratibor on the upper Danube is taken by forces of the Soviet 1st Ukrainian Front.
