Field Marshal Sir Harold Alexander officially resigns his position as Supreme Allied Commander in the Mediterranean at Caserta and is succeeded by US Army General Joseph McNarney, with British Lt. Gen. W. D. Morgan, former Chief of Staff, as Deputy Supreme Commander and American Maj. Gen. Lyman L. Lemnitzer as the new Chief of Staff.
This chronological study of the Second World War provides a comprehensive day-by-day account of WWII. While focused on the military history of the war, with an emphasis on the battles and campaigns fought, the timeline includes social and political history as well.
