Fourth Kaffir War 1811

The Cape Frontier Wars also called KAFFIR, OR KAFIR, WARS (1779-1879), involved 100 years of intermittent warfare between the Cape colonists and the Xhosa agricultural and pastoral peoples of the Eastern Cape, in South Africa. One of the most prolonged struggles by African peoples against European intrusion, it ended in the annexation of Xhosa territories by the Cape Colony and the incorporation of its peoples. British troops, occupying the Cape during the Napoleonic Wars, appeared on the eastern frontier in 1811, in the fourth war, and drove the Xhosa from the Zuurveld.
