OnWar.com
is a privately sponsored investigation of war and warfare.
Information and findings are freely available to everyone.
The long-term objective of this
project is to create a comprehensive, independent source of
military history information for public use. In addition, it
aims to publish
analyses using the data. In the process, it is hoped that
participants will gain insight that will inform future
decisions about war and warfare.
This website provides results
of research undertaken by Ralph Zuljan. At this time it
comprises a study of technical specifications of tanks of
World War II, a day-by-day chronology of World War II and a
database of all armed conflicts from 1800 to 1999.
Additionally, a moderated forum is available for
individuals. Each of these resources has received public
praise.
In terms of page views,
linking and feedback this website has been a success. In
terms of revenue generation, it has been a failure. It was
believed that advertising would fund development.
Unfortunately, advertising simply fails to generate
sufficient funds to support this project. Like so many
information based websites, this one has suffered from the
collapse of internet financing.
One means of generating
income that has been explored by this site and others has
been soliciting funds directly from visitors. This allows
visitors to decide for themselves to support the website.
Not everyone is in a position to help and the webmaster
(that's me) believes information should be free. Your
contribution allows the information to remain free.
