The Tourville class destroyers of the French Navy are optimized for anti-submarine warfare (ASW). Tourville class destroyers have secondary anti-aircraft and anti-surface capabilities. Between 1994 and 1996, the two of the Tourville class destroyers were refitted with the modern SLASM anti-submarine system, an active Very Low Frequencies sonar. A total of three Tourville class destroyers were built between 1970 and 1975, two remain in service with the France.
