The Glorious class aircraft carriers was one of the earliest classes of aircraft carrier to serve with the Royal Navy. Originally laid down as large light cruisers, they were converted into aircraft carriers in the years after the Washington Treaty of 1922. All three of the original battlecruiser class were converted to aircraft carriers. The only surviving warship of this converted aircraft carrier class was decommissioned in 1944.
HMS Glorious was a warship of the Royal Navy. Built as a large light cruiser during World War I, Glorious was converted into an aircraft carrier starting on 14 February 1924 at Rosyth. Recommissioned on 10 March 1930 as an aircraft carrier, HMS Glorious was deployed in World War II. While evacuating British troops from Norway, she was sunk in 1940, with the loss of over 1,200 lives.
