Though the class is often referred to as the Royal Sovereign class, official documents of 1914-1918 refer to the class as the Revenge class. HMS Revenge (06) was the lead ship of her class of battleships of the Royal Navy. She was launched during World War I in 1915. She was commissioned in 1916, just before the battle of Jutland. HMS Revenge was present at the battle of Jutland. Continuing in service postwar, she was refit in 1928-1929 and again in 1936-1937. Still active at the start of World War II, Revenge was was withdrawn from operational service, due to her very poor condition, in October 1943. Still employed for training purposed after her main armament was removed in May 1944 on 8 March 1948 she was placed on the disposal list, being sold for scrap four months later.
