The eight Asagiri class destroyers were completed between 1986 and 1989. All of the warships remain in service with Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF). The Asagiri class of general purpose destroyer is somewhat optimized for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) tasks.
