The Yubari-class destroyer escort (or frigate) of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force is the successor of the Ishikari-class destroyer escort. The displacement was slightly increased and a newer version of the main gun by the same manufacturer was adopted. Two Yubari class frigates were built between 1981 and 1984; both frigates remain in service with Japan.
