The Maine class of battleships were launched between 1901. The Maine class was the first to utilize submerged torpedo tubes in part due to the hull length being 20 feet longer than the previous class ships. Outdated after the introduction of the British HMS Dreadnought, the Main class battleships remained in US Navy service until after World War I.
