The Lexington class was an early aircraft carrier design of the United States Navy. She was the name ship of the Lexington class, though her sister ship Saratoga was commissioned a month earlier. Both were originally authorized in 1916 as battle cruisers. Following the Washington Naval Conference, they were both redesignated and re-authorized to be completed as aircraft carriers on 1 July 1922. The ships set the pattern for future American carrier design: Very large, long ships, with a topside flight deck, starboard-side island combining command and control spaces and the funnels, and a large, deep hangar deck. The class served in World War II with the surviving Saratoga disposed of in the postwar Bikini Atoll nuclear tests.

The USS Lexington (CV-2) was an early aircraft carrier of the United States Navy. She was the name ship of the Lexington class. The Lexington was engaged in the Pacific war against Japan until being sunk as a result of Japanese attacks at the Battle of the Coral Sea in 1942.
