Developed by the Chungshan Institute of Science and Technology, design specifications for the Yun Feng call for a range of over 15,000 kilometres (9,300 mi) at supersonic speeds of over Mach 4; the missile is expected to enter service in 2014. The Yung Feng is stated as being a response to the modernization of the People's Republic of China's submarine-launched ballistic missiles.

It was stated that production of the missile would begin anytime. however the Ministry of National Defense denied reports of the missile's development. At the best it is a futuristic development to stay in military power balance with competing countries.
